Ellie Gibson and Helen Thorn specialise in producing and performing comedy for less-than-perfect parents – so that’s all parents. They have an ever-growing social media following, with nearly 90,000 Instagram followers.
Together they host one of the UK’s most popular parenting podcasts. Launched in July 2013, it was an instant hit, and has since been downloaded 2 million times in more than 150 countries. The podcast has been recommended by The Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The Guardian and Woman’s Hour. Guests have included Dara O Briain, Sandi Toksvig, Jenny Eclair, Mel Giedroyc, and influencers such as Giovanna Fletcher, Mother Pukka, Unmumsy Mum and Hurrah for Gin. In 2017, Scummy Mummies was nominated for the UK’s Best Comedy Podcast at the British Podcast Awards, along with Mixcloud and Lovies awards. The Scummy Mummies Podcast was featured in The Guardian’s “The 50 Best Podcasts of 2016”.
The Scummy Mummies also perform a hit live comedy show that celebrates the scummier side of parenting with sketches, songs, and top quality boob jokes. They perform to sell-out audiences and packed festival crowds around the country, usually wearing their trademark gold catsuits.
Their first book, Scummy Mummies, was released in March 2017 and reached the top 20 on the Amazon chart. It has since been reprinted three times. Ellie and Helen have also written for The Guardian, The Telegraph, Metro, Glamour, Red and more.
The Scummy Mummies have featured on Lorraine ITV, BBC’s Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio 4, Sunrise Weekend (Aus), The Morning Show (Aus), The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, The Times, The Guardian, Metro, The Evening Standard, Glamour Magazine, Kin Magazine, Smallish Magazine, Sky News, London Live and BBC World Service and feature regularly on Radio 5 Live.
Corporate work includes conducting red carpet interviews for NOW TV at the National Television Awards 2017, and hosting and speaking at events for BAFTA Games, English Heritage, Sony PlayStation, The Baby Show, Stylist Live, Channel Mum and Mumsnet. The Scummy Mummies have also worked with brands such as Sainsbury’s, Kleenex, Emirates, McCain, Birdseye, Natwest, Leesa, Bing, Mahabis, Hello Fresh and Gousto.
